In a bid to challenge Maruti Suzuki’s Alto, Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) will launch a rival dubbed HA. It is to be noted that HMIL has 
been working on an Alto rival for almost 5 years and in R&D centers in South Korea as well as in India. With the car, HMIL will target the compact car segment of the country which comprises of almost 70% of the car sales in India. Several auto manufacturers such as Toyota, Nissan, Polo, Beat, Micra have come up with various models in this segment.
HMIL is present in the segment with Santro i10 and i20. The company is the second largest car seller in the country. However, in 2010, the company witnessed a 1% drop in its market share. While the company’s market share stood at 20.4% in 2008, it dropped to 19.7% in 2010. According to sources, the car will sport the same design as that of Hyundai’s new Verna and will have the same length as that of Alto. However, it will be a bit wider than Alto with sufficient room for the cabin. HMIL says that the car will have a fuel efficiency of 21.1 kmpl.
